A retrospective view of the MFHL’s holiday tournament

No sport quite unifies like this one that I’m aware of, and that idea was further solidified in my mind today. The Fun Hockey League (founded 11 years ago by Jay Atkinson in the interest of forming a totally inclusive recreational league for the youngsters) is more or less hitting its peak (thus far at least), and while the tournament has been an annual event for quite some time, this year it felt like it was not just another rendezvous of players and coaches past and present, but also a celebration of how far we’ve come. This year we welcomed about 35 kids and had the assistance of five teenage coaches, two of whom are playing on varsity squads at private high schools. What a wonderful world.

Every day is a great day for hockey.
